Travel information

Haus Bommerholz is located in Witten, approximately 15 km southwest of Dortmund, Germany.

Workshop attendees are expected to arrive at Haus Bommerholz on March 4 around noon. People coming from North America or Japan, who might want to arrive on the day before, are asked to contact the organizers, so that accomodation near the workshop location can be arranged.

Haus Bommerholz can be reached in the following ways:

By air

The nearest international airport is Dusseldorf (about 80 km from Dortmund), which is connected to nearby cities by a local train ("S-Bahn", see below). A taxi ride from Dusseldorf to Haus Bommerholz will cost about 150 German Marks (about 90 US$).

Dortmund has a small airport served by two carriers (Lufthansa and Eurowings). There are daily flights to Dortmund from major European cities, including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Munich. Public transportation from Dortmund airport is sparse, so the best is to take a taxi to Haus Bommerholz (about 80 German Marks or 50 US$).

IMPORTANT: From Dusseldorf and Dortmund airports, we will organize a limited pickup service on March 4. If you plan to arrive at one of these airports, please inform the organizers about your flight schedule well in advance, so that we can arrange pickups accordingly.

Alternatively, Frankfurt international airport can be used. The travel time from Frankfurt to Dortmund/Witten is about 4 hrs. by train and 2.5 hrs. by car. Lufthansa also offers 4 daily flights to Dortmund (1 hour flight time).

By train

From Dortmund main station ("Hauptbahnhof", Hbf) there is a local train ("S-Bahn") to Witten every 30 min, which takes 15 min time.

From Dusseldorf airport take the "S-Bahn" to Essen main station. Change to a local train (RB 771x) to Witten main station. The total travel time is approx. 1:45 hrs.

From Frankfurt airport, there is a direct train connection (Intercity) to Dortmund main station every full hour which takes about 4 hrs.

From Witten main station, take a taxi to Haus Bommerholz (about 20 German Marks).

We can provide individual train schedule information if you inform us about your arrival place and time. You might also have a look at the German Railway's WWW site, which provides information in English language.

By car

From Dusseldorf take highway A 52 (follow signs towards Essen). At Essen-Ost junction, change to highway A 40 towards Bochum/Dortmund. At crossing Bochum, change to A 43 towards Wuppertal.

From Frankfurt take highway A 5 towards Giessen/Dortmund. At crossing "Gambacher Kreuz", change to A 45 towards Dortmund. At crossing Dortmund-West, change to A 40 towards Bochum/Essen. At crossing Bochum, change to A 43 towards Wuppertal.

From the Netherlands use highway A 40 towards Duisburg/Essen/Dortmund. At crossing Bochum, change to A 43 towards Wuppertal.

From highway A 43, take exit "Sprockhovel". Turn right towards Hiddinghausen, then turn left towards Witten. After about 7 km (before entering the town center), watch out for a "Haus Bommerholz" sign on the right. The entry to the Haus Bommerholz area is opposite a bus stop. A car park is available.
